Denty

My first recollection of meeting Denty was back in 2009 when he was an up incoming 18-year-old we’d heard about. His reputation at the time was that of a very talented and promising young cricketer with a slightly mischievous side to him. I didn’t see much of the mischievous side but what was quite clear from those early days was “the boy could play”.

Denty was a quiet lad and I remember when I first gave him a lift to an away game, the conversation involved me asking questions and Denty replying with one word, one syllable answers. Even at sponsors days he’d hang onto senior players coat tails, hoping they would do all the talking.

By the end of my time at Gloucester, I can truly say Denty became one of the standout leaders in what was a developing young squad, and it came as no surprises he was named club captain post the Michael Klinger era. It was so pleasing to see, the young shy Chris of yester year had evolved not only his on-field skills but his off-field skills as well.

Everything Denty has achieved is testament of the great man he is, and this testimonial year is what longevity, performance and loyalty to a club is awarded for, of which Denty is very deserving.

I wish you and your family, all the best, for what I hope is a great year.
